On the Road

Satisfaction- the elusive elixir...

I had to see On The Road before it left the theatre as I had visited the Jack Kerouac house in Orlando for a writing workshop. The resident poet gave us a tour of the house and informed us that is the house in which he wrote Dharma Bum. I was enthralled by Monica's presentation on the language of objects but overwhelmed by the spirit of the house. So on Thursday, April 25, 2013 I went to see On The Road at Cinema Paradiso.

His charm
kept them near him
even when he did them wrong
leaving Sal SICK in Mexico
damn Dean

Throughout the film, the director had some great landscapes that were luring me to the road to capture those images with my lens. At the beginning, we meet Sal and Carlo - writers.  Then Dean. Carlo follows him to Denver.  Sal goes, after receiving a letter (while packing, his mother worries in the next room).  The middle had plenty of weed smoking, alcohol drinking and stealing (courtesy of Truman stated Dean). Did I mention plenty of sex? The hookups were everywhere even while driving. At the end, Sal resisted Dean's charm, went with his other friends. Then when he is reminiscing and it looks like he is ready to be gulled in hanging out with Dean, he grabs a roll of paper and types away. Overall, it gave a glimpse of the times, showed a contrast such as Sal interaction with his family and Dean's influence the family's reaction. Sal's mother was right to worry!
